Slippery slope

Livvy looked up at the peak,
her snowboard strapped tight to her feet.
She had never tried before,
but wanted to since she was four.
If she was scared, it didn’t show
as she stepped out into the snow.
And now the time was finally here,
so one more time she checked her gear.
Goggles on and helmet buckled,
(Ha! The word goggles made her chuckle).
There she stood, at the ready,
arms stretched out, knees firm and steady.
Livvy knew the time had come.
She leaned - and slipped - and fell on her bum.
No problem… Back up on her feet.
But she once again fell on her seat.
She was determined, you could tell,
No matter how many times she fell.
She fell on her knees, she fell on her wrists,
She fell on her elbows, her hips and her fists.
She fell on her back, then her side, and then…
Yep – she fell on her bum again.
“Why can’t I do it?” her mind was boggled.
Then she fell forward, right on her googles.

(Ha! Goggles…)

The lift took Livvy back up the hill.
“I’m going to do this,” she said, “I will!”
Livvy peered at the slope below,
smiled, leaned in, and started to go.
Down she went, and what was so neat,
Livvy was not on her bum, but her feet!
At first it was weird, but then it seemed right.
She carved left, then back to the right.
She made it all the way down to the base
with rosy cheeks and a smile on her face.
She’d conquered the bunny slope, but then,
She tripped on a ski… and fell on her bum again.

"Music is probably the only real magic I have encountered in my life There's not some trick involved with it. It's pure and it's real. It moves, it heals, it communicates and does all those incredible things."

~ Tom Petty
