Ryan’s tapping

Ryan tapped on table tops,
making bangs and clicks and pops.
Ryan tapped the backs of chairs,
on railings, window sills and stairs.
Ryan tapped at home, at school,
at the playground, and the pool.
Ryan tapped the dog and cat,
(not to hard… More like a ‘pat’)
Ryan tapped morn’, noon and night.
in the dark, or in the light.
He tapped on fences, posts, and gates,
on teacups, bowls and dinner plates,
the fridge, the sink, the pans and pots.
But not the oven… It’s too hot!
Ryan tapped so much, his mum
and dad got him a set of drums.

Now ~

Ryan’s taps have become pounding,
   same rhythm, but louder sounding.
And though the pounding sound is louder,
Mom and dad could not be prouder.
There’s still tapping, I won’t lie,
there’s tapping, but it’s not from Ry.
It’s not on tables, chairs or cots,
not on trays or cups or pots.
Now the taps come from the door.
a little at first – now more and more.
The neighbors tap. They come around
to ask, ‘CAN YOU PLEASE KEEP IT DOWN?!?!’
Ryan tries to keep it light
early mornings and late at night.
He tries, but what can Ryan do?
  Go back to tapping tables?

                             Could you?
